Our major sponsor is the City of Boroondara who have shown their commitment to Heritage in the municipality by the development of the Heritage Centre in which we now operate along with the Canterbury History Group. We are grateful for this support and their ongoing support through the Triennial Grant funding and other occasional/annual grants.
Societies like ours cannot operate without sponsorship.
The Surrey Hills Historical Society Inc (SHHS) acknowledges the generous support of our mission and activities through the following grants streams:
‘Mapping our past into our future’: Funding is to assist with the day-to-day operation of the Society as a joint occupant of the Maling Heritage Centre and to support the range of heritage-related activities and events that we provide for the community. Whist some of these will be annual, in our new home we have the capacity to build on our core activities and be responsive to emerging opportunities that align with our aims and those of the Boroondara Community Plan.
This grant was awarded to support the work of volunteers cataloguing the collection and undertaking research. It was used to purchase a new laptop.
Annual Community Strengthening Grant (City of Boroondara and Rotary Club of Balwyn)
This grant was awarded to the Canterbury History Group and the Surrey Hills Historical Society to facilitate the re-establishment of the 2 societies in the Heritage Centre at 190A Canterbury Road, specifically to develop a joint website, equipment for community use and outreach activities, and software for both marketing and community connection.
Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme Round 7
This grant was awarded to SHHS to purchase laptops, a printer and associated computer equipment.
Federal Government Volunteers Grant
This grant was awarded to support the recruiting and training of new volunteers and the upskilling of existing volunteers through a series of workshops in care of collections, cataloguing and research.
Annual Community Strengthening Grant (City of Boroondara and Rotary Club of Balwyn)
This grant is to provide training in disaster preparedness and response, first aid training and the purchase of equipment to better record and protect collection items. This training and equipment to be shared with the Canterbury History Group.
